In 2013 I started Hablea while I was living in France and offering Spanish classes on Skype to French speakers. France had a profound impact on my life, so I wanted to offer a different method to my Spanish students. As I started teaching more, I realized that many people are interested in learning a language—but don’t have the time or money to join a class. And, many people felt that classes offered in schools lacked personalization, so they’d lose interest. All of this inspired me even more to continue my work Hablea, combining my two greatest loves: Education and Language. Since launching Hablea, I have had students from all over the world and continue to create more projects related to education.
Hablea believes that barriers created by language and distance can be erased through education and connecting with people from all over the world.
Starting in 2018, Hablea will lead an intercultural exchange movement in the city of Medellin and the town of Jardin. Colombia is a country where education is still a privilege for few, with current high levels of inequality. Many projects are trying to solve this problem but the country still an unsettling amount of youth without quality education. This project seeks to encourage the young generation to learn languages and connect through innovative projects. If you are learning a language or if you just want to practice, try my classes. I will show you that learning a language does not have to be difficult. Educators must realize that each of us have a different way of learning. My work honors the unique way you learn. Hope to see you soon! Alejandra
